The Key Benefits of Solar Panels
Solar panels offer homeowners a reliable way to reduce energy bills, increase property value, and lower their carbon footprint. With energy costs continuing to rise, installing solar panels is one of the most cost-effective home improvements you can make. Paired with a solar battery storage system you can maximise your savings by storing excess energy for use in the evening or during cloudy days. Our MCS-certified installations come with full aftercare support, so you can enjoy the long-term benefits with complete peace of mind.

What's Involved in a Solar System?
Understanding the kit means you can ask the right questions and spot a bad quote.
Solar Panels
Where electricity is generated. Look at efficiency (%). wattage and the product warranty. not just the price per panel. We work with several Tier-1 manufacturers and recommend based on your roof.
Inverter
Converts DC to AC. The most likely component to fail over 25 years. so we’d rather fit a quality string or hybrid inverter than the cheapest option to inflate margins.
Battery
Stores daytime power for evening use. Useful but not always necessary. We’ll show you a payback calculation before suggesting one. some homes are better off without.
Monitoring App
Tracks generation; usage and savings in real time. Comes free with every install. so you can verify the system is performing exactly as quoted.
- Honest recommendations based on roof orientation; shading and usage.
- Itemised quotes, you see panel cost, inverter cost, install cost. All separated.
- Multiple brand options at every tier. so you can compare like-for-like.
- No pressure sales - we'll happily tell you if solar isn't right for your home.
The solar industry has a quiet problem: many installers sign exclusive deals with a single panel or battery brand. They sell what they’re contracted to sell rather than what’s right for your home.
We deliberately stayed independent. When we recommend a panel, an inverter, or a battery storage system, it’s because our data-driven research points to it as the right fit for your roof, your usage, and your budget. Multiple trusted options are always on the table so you can compare like for like. No pressure and no agenda.
Solar Questions Homeowners Ask
No jargon. No sales-speak. Just the things people actually want to know.
Does solar work in the UK climate?
Yes. Solar panels run on daylight rather than direct heat or strong sun, so they generate power even on cloudy British days. A typical home system produces around 2,900 to 6,800 kWh a year, depending on its size and roof orientation. The UK gets more than enough daylight to make solar a worthwhile investment, which is why hundreds of thousands of homes already have it.
How long is the payback period?
For most homes the payback period is roughly 7 to 12 years, after which the energy you generate is effectively free. The exact figure depends on your system size, how much electricity you use during daylight hours, whether you add battery storage, and how much surplus you export to the grid. We give you an itemised payback projection with your quote so you can see the real numbers for your property.
Will my panels work in a power cut?
A standard solar system automatically shuts off during a power cut for safety reasons, so it won't power your home on its own. If you add a battery with backup capability, however, your home can keep running on stored solar energy when the grid goes down. We'll tell you honestly whether backup is worth it for your situation rather than upselling it as standard.
Do I need planning permission?
In most cases, no. Solar panels on a typical home count as permitted development, so planning permission isn't required. Exceptions apply if your property is listed, in a conservation area, or covered by an Article 4 Direction, or if you're planning a larger ground-mounted array. We check this for you before installation so there are no surprises.
What happens to extra electricity I don't use?
Any surplus your panels generate can be sold back to the grid through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), earning you money for what you don't use. Alternatively, you can store that surplus in a home battery to use in the evening or on cloudy days. Many homeowners use a mix of both to get the most value from their system, and we'll help you decide which suits you.
Is there VAT on solar installations?
Under current UK rules, residential solar panel installations qualify for 0% VAT, which is already reflected in our indicative pricing. This relief covers panels, inverters, and battery storage installed at the same time. It makes now a particularly cost-effective time to go solar, though the rate is set by government policy and could change in future.
How long do solar panels last?
Quality solar panels are built to last 25 years or more, and the Tier-1 panels we recommend come with a 25-year performance warranty. They don't stop working after that; output just gradually tapers off. Inverters typically last 10 to 15 years and may need replacing once during the system's life, which we factor into the lifetime savings figures in your quote.
Do solar panels need much maintenance?
Very little. Solar panels have no moving parts, and the UK's rainfall keeps them reasonably clean on its own. An occasional check and the odd clean is usually all that's needed. Our monitoring app lets you see generation and spot any drop in performance in real time, and all our installations come with full aftercare support.
